"Mason Jar" on tUMULt comp
Alger Hiss recorded a massive, live-in-the-studio version of "Mason Jar," to be released on a multi-CD compilation honoring the marriage of tUMULt Records magnate Andee Connors. Other participants include Circle, Acid Mothers Temple, Hatewave, Worms, Solar Anus, Leviathan, Mountain Goats, Iran, Guapo, Burmese and MANY others. This fine document can be obtained only by sending a thoughtful (not necessarily expensive) wedding gift to the happy couple. More info: monkey@tumult.net.
Noise-rock vet Dave Reid played drums on the song. Gary Dorfman oversaw the session. No overdubs, no punch-ins, no mixing. Ironically, this spontaneously taped quickie may be the most representative and powerful Alger Hiss on CD. It also marks the band's first release since 1997's Graft Vs. Host LP.
